Chicago, IL - The Wicker Park / Bucktown Gallery Association is holding a Second Saturday Gallery Walk on September 8th, 2007 from 6-10pm at multiple venues throughout Wicker Park and Bucktown. The WPBGA is an organization of galleries in the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhood (roughly defined with the southern border at Division, the northern border at Fullerton, the western border at Western, and the eastern border at the Chicago River).

The WPBGA works to promote Wicker Park and Bucktown as a visual arts destination for collectors and art world professionals, while actively working to attract new galleries to the neighborhood. WPBGA promotes the artists and programs of its members through advertising, public programs, and collaborative events.

WPBGA will have a free shuttle service provided by our sponsor iGo Car Sharing for all those not into the "walking" part of the Gallery Walk or for those who just don't have a lot of time, but want to see all the galleries. This month, iGo shuttle cars will pick-up at the Caro d'Offay Gallery (2204 W. North Avenue) at 6, 7, 8 and 9 pm then rotate to all other galleries. The final drop-off at Caro d'Offay Gallery will be 10 pm. The drivers will announce themselves at each gallery, making it easy to jump on the shuttle!

Participants in our November Second Saturday event include:

The Colorist Chess: Textaport Projects
Opening Reception: November 10th, 2007 from 6-10pm
carodoffaygallery.com, 773.235.7400

In celebration of Caro d'Offay Gallery's 2nd anniversary in Wicker Park, the annual Colorist Chess: Textaport Projects will host the third live "Textaport : Teleportation Through Text" event. Painters will converge in the gallery from 6-10 pm during the WPBGA Second Saturday Artwalk to interpret a master painting from a text-only description. This will be the second master-painting-copy-session and the 5th object-to-text and back to object experiment. The current gallery exhibit houses a pair of 16-foot gloves by Fiber Artist Danny Mansmith. Like all Textaport projects, the gloves were derived from text-only description of a mystery object - in this case a pair of work gloves. Converting an inch to two feet, the object was interpreted into the gallery at 24 times original size. Two other objects and their interpretations are also housed at the gallery, providing additional perspective to this ongoing project. There will be a $5 suggested donation at the door. Paintings will also be up for silent auction during the event. Exhibit and ongoing projects run through December 8th.

One of the legacies of modernism is that we increasingly direct our attention to the media themselves. We have seen in the last century and a half many examples of work in which the act of painting itself becomes the subject matter. More recently, there has been a wave of work by artists focusing on the studio itself, both as an environment and as a locus for art practice, as the place of full potentiality. Deborah Boardman activates the realm of the studio through painting her environment as a work in progress. Located in the traditional garret space of her gabled third floor home, she finds an ever-shifting focus in her own picture making, the architecture of the studio space and the ash tree outside her window. This steady regard for her surroundings, executed in loose, fluid brushwork, provides a vehicle to explore painting as a medium and painting as a window to other worlds, both inner and outer directed. In the exhibition space of Koscielak's gallery, Deborah Boardman will present a facsimile of her studio space, highlighting particular aspects such as her easel and palette table, shelves of books, sketchbooks and research material, and stacks of paintings both in progress and completed.

Special Guest Artists: Carol Anthony, Judith Brotman, Diane Christiansen, Elisabeth Condon, Andrea Demers, Dan Devening, Susanne Doremus, Jason Dunda, Pete Fagundo, Howard Fonda, Jackie Kazarian, Jin Lee, Giselle Mahoney, Robert Metrick, Kim Mitself, Laurie Palmer, Olivia Petrides, John Ploof, Judy Raphael Ellen Rothenberg, Erin Stack, Amy Vogel, Ray Zielinski.

The Johnsonese Gallery is pleased to announce Carl Corey's Habitat from October 13th through November 17th, 2007. This solo photography show will feature images from both Corey's Habitat and Southeast Side series. His Southeast Side series holds particular interest for Chicagoans because of Corey's unique perspective on the city's aging industrial remnants.

Carl Corey is the recipient of over 100 awards from the advertising, design and photography communities, and is a veteran of assignment photography. Since 2000, Corey has directed his energy to more personal work, concentrating on social/aesthetic issues of the environment and landscape. Corey holds a BFA from Southern Illinois University. His monograph book, Rancher, was released earlier this year and features 64 of Corey's photographs over 112 pages.

Three artists explore the theme of cults in this not-to-be-missed exhibit at Rotofugi! All three have histories in street art but their styles couldn't be more different...Abe Jr.'s recent works tend to be slick and graphic, Ethos usually brings a distinct Native American vibe and MCA features characters with hand-drawn line work and vivid color. The exhibit will feature digital works, prints and paintings and should be a visual mash-up like we've never seen before at our little gallery. Exhibit ends November 24.
